Kamindu Mendis Sets Historic Record with Eighth Consecutive Fifty-Plus Score in Test Cricket

In a remarkable achievement, Kamindu Mendis has become the first cricketer in history to score fifty-plus runs in eight consecutive Test matches. The elegant left-hander reached this milestone during Sri Lanka’s ongoing Test against New Zealand at Galle International Stadium.

Batting at number five, Mendis delivered a flawless performance, securing his fourth half-century in Test cricket. Sri Lanka, after opting to bat first, stumbled early with the dismissal of Pathum Nissanka. However, steadying partnerships from Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal helped rebuild the innings, with Mendis and Angelo Mathews continuing the momentum.

At stumps on Day 1, Sri Lanka stood at a strong 306 for three, thanks to Mendis’ composed knock. His recent form has been nothing short of spectacular, with the left-hander shining during Sri Lanka’s previous series against England.

Mendis’ eight consecutive fifty-plus scores set a new record in the 147-year history of Test cricket, surpassing Pakistani batsman Saud Shakeel’s record of seven. Since making his Test debut in 2022, Mendis has consistently proven his class and potential, solidifying his place as a key player for Sri Lanka.
