Sri Lanka Police Clarifies Traffic Regulations on Reopened Section of R.A. De Mel Mawatha After 19 Years

Sri Lanka Police has issued a clarification regarding the traffic regulations on the newly reopened section of R.A. De Mel Mawatha in Colombo, spanning from St. Michael’s Roundabout to the Rotunda Roundabout, which has been accessible to the public after 19 years.

Police Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Nihal Thalduwa, announced that the road is currently open only for light vehicles. The road was reopened on October 4 following instructions from the Ministry of Defense.

This portion of R.A. De Mel Mawatha, located in the Kollupitiya Police area and running along Temple Trees, was initially closed in 2005 for security reasons. With the intervention of the Ministry of Defence, the stretch has been reopened.

Due to ongoing road repair work, vehicular movement will be allowed in one direction. Upon completion of the repairs, vehicles will be permitted to use both lanes.
