Intertropical Convergence Zone to Influence Island’s Weather, Warns Meteorology Department

The Meteorology Department has indicated that the Intertropical Convergence Zone, where winds from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet, will further impact the island’s weather patterns.

As a result, showers or thundershowers are expected at various times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Additionally, other areas across the island are likely to experience showers or thundershowers in the afternoon or night.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is anticipated in certain areas within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, and Puttalam districts.

The public is kindly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
