The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy sail training warship, ‘Po Lang,’ arrived at the Port of Colombo this morning (October 8) on an official visit. The Sri Lanka Navy welcomed the vessel with full naval honors, in accordance with naval traditions.
The ‘Po Lang,’ an 86-meter-long sail training vessel, is crewed by 130 personnel, including 35 officer cadets, according to a statement from the Sri Lanka Navy.
As part of the visit, the ship’s Commanding Officer, Commander Ma Wenyong, is scheduled to meet with Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe, Commander of the Western Naval Area, at the Western Naval Command Headquarters today (October 8).
In a gesture aimed at strengthening ties between the two navies, the crew members will participate in a series of programs organized by the Sri Lanka Navy. During their stay in Colombo, the crew will also have the opportunity to visit some of the country’s tourist attractions, while Sri Lankan Navy personnel will attend briefings on the operational functions of the Chinese ship.
The ‘Po Lang’ is scheduled to conclude its formal visit and depart from the island on October 11, according to the Sri Lanka Navy.
