President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a crucial meeting with senior officials from the Sri Lanka Customs Department and the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (09), according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
The discussions focused on strategies to increase revenue generation and improve operational efficiency in both departments, aligning with the government’s broader economic goals.
During the meeting, officials from both departments highlighted the challenges they face in revenue management and combatting tax evasion. They emphasized the need for enhanced coordination between the IRD and Customs to address these issues effectively. Stronger collaboration, they noted, would lead to better enforcement of tax laws and help prevent tax leakage, ultimately increasing the country’s revenue, the PMD reported.
Key participants from the Sri Lanka Customs Department included Director General Mr. PBSC Nonis, Additional Director Generals Mrs. HW SP Karunaratne, Mr. CSA Chandrasekara, Mr. WSI Silva, Mr. SP Arukgoda, Mr. J M M G Wijeratna Bandara, Senior Deputy Director Mr. A. W. L. C. Weerakoon, and Chief Financial Officer Mr. MRGAB Muthukuda.
From the Inland Revenue Department, Commissioner General Mrs. WS Chandrasekara, Deputy Commissioners General Mr. BKS Shanta, Mrs. JADDB K Siriwardena, Mrs. JD Ranasinghe, Mr. DMNSB Dissanayake, Mr. HHS Samantha Kumara, and Senior Commissioner Ms. TMS Thennakone participated in the discussions.
