Enhanced Showery Conditions Expected in South-Western Sri Lanka: Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Predicted

The Department of Meteorology has announced that showery conditions in the south-western part of Sri Lanka are expected to intensify over the next few days, starting from today (10), due to the development of an atmospheric disturbance near the island.

Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North-Western provinces. Some areas in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, may experience heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm.

Additionally, showers or thundershowers are forecast for other parts of the island during the evening or night, with fairly heavy showers of over 75mm likely in certain areas. Morning showers are also expected in the Northern Province.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
