India’s High Commissioner Calls for New Mindset to Strengthen India-Sri Lanka Partnership

Santosh Jha, India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, has urged for a shift in mindset to overcome past hesitations and actively pursue shared goals between the two nations. Speaking at the 45th National Conference of CA Sri Lanka, he emphasized the need for a stronger India-Sri Lanka partnership, citing their shared geography, history, and future.

“We are naturally intertwined by geography, tradition, and destiny. We must work hand in hand to grow and prosper together,” High Commissioner Jha stated, warning that any attempts to create divisions would hinder both countries’ aspirations.

He also highlighted the growing significance of the Indo-Pacific region as a hub of global dynamism and noted that India’s economic growth presents a strategic opportunity for Sri Lanka. “India is emerging as a key player in global rebalancing, and Sri Lanka, as India’s closest maritime neighbor, can integrate with this growth for its economic revival.”

Jha further discussed the changing global order, emphasizing the shift from the G7 to the G20, and called for enhanced connectivity between India and Sri Lanka to boost access to global markets.

Additionally, he outlined India’s people-centric foreign policy towards Sri Lanka, focusing on development projects and financial support. “India is assisting Sri Lanka through investments, grants, and support for debt restructuring efforts, reflecting our commitment to Sri Lanka’s recovery,” he added.

High Commissioner Jha concluded by reiterating the need for both nations to work together to ensure mutual prosperity and stability in the region.
