Petroleum Trade Unions Criticize CEB for Failing to Implement Electricity Tariff Revision

The Petroleum Trade Unions have strongly criticized the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for failing to implement the scheduled electricity tariff revision on October 1, citing irresponsible actions by the CEB.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo yesterday (16), union convener Ananda Palitha raised concerns over the delay, stating, “The Electricity Board has not yet provided the necessary data to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) for the tariff revision. Currently, the CEB’s net profit exceeds Rs. 155 billion. Why is there room for further exploitation?”

Palitha urged the President to intervene, calling for immediate action. “If you are truly committed to the welfare of the people, you should question the CEB on what it has been doing all this time. The electricity bill could be reduced by at least 45 percent with a swift revision,” he added.
