Police and Election Commission Report Rising Complaints of Election Violations and Violence Ahead of 2024 Parliamentary Elections

Sri Lanka Police have reported receiving 88 complaints linked to the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections. According to the Police Media Unit, these include 16 complaints of violence and 72 complaints of election law violations.

The Election Commission has also reported 75 complaints of election law violations in the past 24 hours alone. Of these, 28 complaints were received by the National Election Complaints Management Center and 47 by the District Election Complaints Management Centers.

Between September 26 and October 26, the Election Commission has recorded a total of 791 election-related complaints, including 769 cases of election law violations and 7 cases of violence.
