Attorney General Assures Supreme Court of Steps to Address Salary Disparities in Teaching Advisory Service

The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today that efforts are underway to address salary disparities within Sri Lanka’s Teaching Advisory Service. This update came during a fundamental rights hearing initiated by the All Ceylon Teaching Advisors’ Association, which filed a petition to eliminate these pay gaps.

The case was heard by Justices Preethi Padman Surasena and Janak de Silva. Attorney-at-Law Nuwan Bopage, representing the petitioners, highlighted that teaching advisors’ salaries are significantly lower than those of teachers, causing substantial injustice to his clients.

Deputy Solicitor General Yuresha de Silva, representing the Attorney General, acknowledged the disparity and assured the court of forthcoming measures to ensure fair compensation for teaching advisors.

The petitioners expressed agreement with this assurance, leading the Supreme Court to conclude the case proceedings. The Secretary of the Ministry of Education and other officials were named as respondents in the petition.
