The Department of Meteorology has announced that atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for afternoon thundershowers across most parts of Sri Lanka, starting today (Oct 31) and continuing over the next few days.
According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers are expected in many areas of the island during the evening or night today, with possible morning rain in parts of the Northern and Eastern provinces. Some areas in the Uva, Eastern, and North-Central provinces may receive fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm.
In addition, showers or thundershowers are predicted over several sea areas around the island in the evening and night, as well as in the morning along the coastal stretch from Mannar to Batticaloa via Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee.
Winds will blow from the west to southwest at speeds of 20-30 km/h. Sea conditions around the island may be moderate, though temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are expected during thundershowers.
