The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for heavy showers of up to 100 mm in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, and Uva provinces, as well as the Kurunegala district today (November 5).
Showers or thundershowers are expected over much of the island this evening or night. Additionally, coastal areas in the Western and Southern provinces, along with the Ampara district, may experience morning showers, according to the department.
The general public is urged to take precautions against potential hazards, including strong, localized winds and lightning during thundershowers, as atmospheric conditions are conducive to afternoon storms in most parts of the island.
