President Anura Kumara Dissanayake Emphasizes Rural Development and Public Service Reform

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake affirmed that rural development and enhancing the social and economic well-being of rural communities are central goals of his administration, according to a statement by the President’s Media Division (PMD).

In a discussion held on November 5 at the Presidential Secretariat with members of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service Association (SLAS), President Dissanayake underscored the need for public officials to collaborate with the government to effectively implement its initiatives. He stressed that the expertise and experience of government officials are crucial to achieving the administration’s policy objectives.

The President also highlighted a gap between the government’s development goals and the traditional operations of the public service, calling for reforms in public administration to better align with national development efforts. He emphasized that curbing fraud and corruption remains a top priority, as lapses in project execution have significantly impacted the nation’s economy.

President Dissanayake further reassured public officials of their independence from political interference, enabling them to serve the public effectively. He urged public servants to minimize unnecessary expenditures while preserving essential services.

The event was attended by SLAS members, including Association President Mahesh Gammanpila and Secretary Jayaveera Fernando.
