The US State Department’s Special Envoy for Global Youth Issues, Abby Finkenauer, will visit Sri Lanka from November 12 to 15, 2024.
According to the US State Department, this visit underscores the United States’ commitment to empowering young leaders in South Asia, promoting civic engagement, and addressing crucial issues such as youth leadership, cultural preservation, and community resilience.
During her visit, Special Envoy Finkenauer will witness the impact of the US-Sri Lanka partnership, observing programs in education, leadership, and civic engagement that empower young leaders and drive social and economic development.
Together with US Ambassador Julie Chung, Finkenauer will engage with the Embassy’s Youth Forum and alumni from the Emerging Leaders Academy, a USAID-supported initiative fostering civic leadership among underrepresented groups. She will also meet with participants of the US Embassy-supported Women in Motion program, which inspires young women to pursue careers in creative industries, and visit successful young entrepreneurs benefiting from US-supported skills-building initiatives.
This trip aims to strengthen partnerships with South Asian youth leaders and enhance collaborative efforts on issues affecting young people worldwide.
