Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will appoint a new Prime Minister and Cabinet on Monday, November 18, following the National People’s Power (NPP)’s record-breaking triumph in the snap general election, according to senior party spokesman Tilvin Silva.
“We will be appointing the Cabinet on Monday (18), limited to 25 members. It could be even fewer—23 or 24. There will be a scientific allocation of subjects for the ministries,” Silva stated.
On Friday, November 15, the NPP achieved a resounding success in the Parliamentary elections, securing a two-thirds majority with a historic 159 seats.
The inaugural session of the Tenth Parliament, composed of members elected in the 2024 General Election held on November 14, is set to convene on November 21. This schedule was announced in Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 2403/13 dated September 24, 2024, as issued by the President, according to the Parliamentary Communications Department.
