The Election Commission has confirmed that a total of 667,240 votes were rejected in the 2024 general election.
Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, shared the key figures from the election:
- Eligible voters: 17,140,354
- Votes cast: 11,815,246
- Valid votes: 11,148,006
- Rejected votes: 667,240
Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), praised the election as the most peaceful in the country’s history.
