The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has issued an interim injunction suspending the release of the 2024 Grade 05 Scholarship Examination results.
The order was issued after the court considered a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by a group of parents and students, who challenged the conduct of the exam.
The 2024 Grade 05 Scholarship Examination, held in September, became controversial when it was revealed that a mock paper shared prior to the exam contained questions that appeared in the official exam. A tuition teacher in the Alawwa area had circulated a practice paper with questions similar to some in the first part of the exam.
In response to complaints from various parties, the Department of Examinations launched an investigation. The matter was further escalated when a Deputy Commissioner from the Examinations Department filed a complaint, prompting an inquiry by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Two suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with the alleged question leak. Despite the controversy over three leaked questions, the Commissioner General of Examinations decided that the exam would not be re-conducted and announced that all students would receive full marks for the disputed questions.
