Dr. Ashoka Ranwala has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of Sri Lanka’s 10th Parliament during its inaugural session held on Thursday (21).
The nomination for Dr. Ranwala was proposed by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and seconded by Cabinet Minister Vijitha Herath.
Other Key Appointments:
- Dr. Mohamed Rizvie Salih was elected as Deputy Speaker, with his nomination proposed by Chief Government Whip and Cabinet Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, and seconded by Cabinet Minister Saroja Paulraj.
- Hemali Weerasekara was appointed Deputy Chairperson of Committees, with her nomination proposed by Cabinet Minister Sunil Handunneththi and seconded by Samanmalee Gunasinghe.
Additionally, Speaker Dr. Ranwala announced the appointment of Sajith Premadasa as Leader of the Opposition, marking another significant development in the new parliamentary session.
