Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) have issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas’s military commander Mohammed Deif.
In a statement, the ICC’s pre-trial chamber rejected Israel’s challenges to the court’s jurisdiction, concluding there were “reasonable grounds” to believe the three individuals bear criminal responsibility for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Israel-Hamas war.
Although the Israeli military reported that Mohammed Deif was killed in a Gaza airstrike in July, the warrant remains in effect. Both Israel and Hamas have denied the allegations.
