The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced a series of special raids commencing December 15 to safeguard consumer interests during the festive season.
CAA Director Asela Bandara stated that a comprehensive inspection program will be carried out across the country, targeting major wholesale outlets, warehouses, and retail shops to prevent the distribution of expired products.
The raids will also cover stores selling clothing, electronics, and other essential goods to ensure compliance with consumer protection standards. Additionally, mobile vendors and outlets hosting large seasonal sales will face strict monitoring to curb unfair trade practices and maintain product quality.
The CAA has urged consumers to report issues such as expired goods, misleading promotions, or substandard products through its dedicated hotline at 1977.
