The Department of Irrigation has issued a flood warning for several low-lying, flood-prone areas across the island from November 25 to 28, citing the current low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal and its potential intensification in the coming days.
The flood-prone river basins identified by the department include:
- Malwathu Basin
- Kala Oya Basin
- Kanagarayanaru Basin
- Parangi Aru Basin
- Maa Oya Basin
- Yan Oya Basin
- Mahaweli Ganga Basin
- Maduru Oya Basin
- Mundeniaru Basin
- Gal Oya Basin
- Heda Oya Basin
- Vila Oya Basin
Residents and travelers in these areas are advised to remain vigilant starting November 25, 2024. The department has also urged the Disaster Management Authorities to take necessary precautions to mitigate risks.
