Recommencement of 2024 GCE A/Level Examinations to Be Decided After Weather Assessment

The resumption of the 2024 GCE Advanced Level Examinations will be determined following an assessment of weather conditions and flood-affected areas after November 29, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha announced.

Speaking at a special media briefing on Sri Lanka’s adverse weather, the Defence Secretary stated that the Department of Meteorology has forecasted a reduction in rainfall after November 29. Authorities will then evaluate the situation in flood-affected areas to decide on a feasible date for recommencing the exams.

Thuyacontha emphasized that beyond the physical conditions, the well-being of students must also be taken into account, ensuring they have sufficient time to recover and prepare before the exams resume.

The final decision will be made by the Department of Examinations, which will issue an official announcement once all factors are reviewed and finalized.

The 2024 GCE A/Level Examination, which began on November 25, was temporarily suspended for three days starting November 27 due to severe weather impacting multiple districts.
