The Sri Lanka Navy has detained 18 Indian fishermen for allegedly trespassing in Sri Lankan territorial waters near Chundikulam Sea, off the coast of Jaffna. The vessel used by the fishermen was also confiscated during the operation.
This latest incident adds to a growing tally for the year, with 515 Indian fishermen apprehended and 67 vessels seized so far, according to Sri Lanka Navy officials.
The recurring maritime boundary violations have been a point of contention between the two neighboring countries, highlighting the need for continued dialogue to address fishing disputes in shared waters.
