The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for sea areas off the coasts from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar. This advisory is in effect until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12.
According to the advisory, these sea areas will be rough or very rough at times, with very strong gusty winds reaching up to 60-65 km/h. Additionally, the sea areas off the coasts from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai and from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle are expected to be fairly rough at times, with winds gusting up to 50 km/h.
The naval and fishing communities are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant during this period.
