Another Sikh separatist has been shot dead in Canada. The incident comes amid an already heated diplomatic standoff between Canada and India over the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
According to Indian media, both shootings are related to gang-rivalries. Hindustan Times said that “Intelligence inputs from Canada indicate that Sukhdool Singh aka Sukha Duneke of Davinder Bambiha gang from Moga district has been killed in inter-gang rivalry on Wednesday night. Unconfirmed reports suggest he was killed in Winnipeg, Canada. This is similar to the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in inter-gang warfare in Surrey on 19 June. The rivals pumped some 15 bullets into Nijjar.”
Duneke moved to Canada from India in 2017. He has seven criminal cases registered against him in India.
News platform South Asia Index posted through its X account on Thursday morning, “Sukhdool Singh was on the most wanted list in India. Indian agency NIA had just issued warrants against him.”
It is notable here that after the reports of Nijjar’s death, Canada expelled top Indian diplomat after claiming that they had “credible information” linking Indian government agents to the murder of a Sikh leader in Canada. Following this, India expelled the Canadian diplomat, escalating tensions between both countries.
