Australia Passes Strict Law Banning Social Media Use for Children Under 16

Australia’s Parliament has enacted one of the world’s strictest regulations on social media, banning children under the age of 16 from using these platforms.

The law, approved by the Senate yesterday, mandates that social media companies such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok must block users under 16 from creating accounts.

Non-compliance with this regulation could result in significant penalties, with fines reaching up to AUS$50 million (approximately US$32.5 million).
