After the first ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand was called off due to rain, both teams are facing each other in the second ODI of the three-match series in Dhaka. It is an important game for both teams, as the winner will take a 1-0 unassailable lead in the series. The second ODI started with New Zealand captain Lockie Ferguson winning the toss and deciding to bat first.
But the visitors had a horrible start and lost their top three batters for just 36 runs. But after that, the experienced duo of Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell added 95 runs for the fourth wicket to bring New Zealand back into the game. But as soon as the stand was broken, New Zealand took the most quick wickets. However, with the contributions from the lower-order batters, they reached a challenging total of 254 in the first innings.
Bowling all-rounder Ish Sodhi played a vital innings at the end and scored 35 runs off 39 balls with three sixes. But he was dismissed in the 46th over of the innings. A moment was captured when the Bangladeshi team and the skipper, Litton Das, set a brilliant example of sportsmanship. It happened on the third ball of the 46th over when pacer Hasan Mahmud ran out Sodhi at the non-striker’s end.
Ish Sodhi was backing too much and was out of the crease when Mahmud whipped the bails off. The decision was sent to the third umpire, and the batter was given out. However, while going back to the pavilion, the batter seemed unhappy and was seen clapping for the Bangladeshi bowler. After that, Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar had a chat with the umpire, and they decided to call back the batter.
Ish Sodhi was run out at the non strikers end by Hasan Mahmud. The third umpire checked and gave OUT! But when Sodhi started walking out, skipper Litton Das and Hasan Mahmud called him back again. The Bangladeshi skipper had a chat with the on-field umpire and asked to call back Sodhi, and he withdrew the appeal. Once Sodhi came back to the crease, he hugged the bowler Hasan Mahmud and both had a smile on their faces. Sodhi was 17 off 26 when it happened, and he added another 18 runs to the total. New Zealand got all out for 254 in 49.2 overs.
