Budget 2024 Unveils Rs.3 Billion Allocation to Propel Digital Economy by 2030

In a groundbreaking move towards embracing the digital future, Budget 2024 has earmarked Rs.3 billion for the facilitation of a robust digital economy by the year 2030. President Wickremesinghe announced the ambitious initiative, emphasizing the government’s commitment to spearheading a technological revolution.

As a pivotal step in this transformative journey, the government intends to establish a Digital Authority vested with comprehensive powers. This authority is poised to play a pivotal role in providing the essential leadership and direction required for the comprehensive digitization of the public sector.

In addition to the Digital Authority, President Wickremesinghe proposed the establishment of a Technological Innovation Council. This council is designed to foster collaboration between the public sector, expert institutions, and civil society, with the primary aim of stimulating and supporting technological innovation.

Furthermore, the Budget unveiled plans to set up a National Center for Artificial Intelligence. This strategic move is geared towards ensuring an economic and social transformation, aligning with the latest trends in digital technology and artificial intelligence.
