Cabinet Approves Egg Imports to Stabilize Bakery Prices for Festive Seasons

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to import eggs to stabilize the prices of cakes and other bakery products during the upcoming Christmas and Ramadan festive seasons. This move aims to ensure a sufficient supply of eggs for the bakery industry.

Following the Cabinet’s decision on March 18, 2024, the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation has imported 224 million eggs. Of these, 95% have been distributed to consumers at an affordable price of Rs. 37 through Lanka Sathosa’s network of outlets. The period for importing eggs concluded on April 30, 2024.
