In a significant development, the Cabinet of Ministers has given the green light to a proposal aimed at entering into a Power Purchase Agreement with the Australia-based company United Solar Group.
Power & Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera announced via X (formerly Twitter) that this agreement paves the way for an investment in a substantial 700MW Solar Power Project, complemented by a 1,500MW Battery Energy Storage System.
Wijesekera further explained that the solar power project is slated to be situated on the surface of the Poonakary Tank in the Killinochchi District, with a substantial Foreign Direct Investment totaling USD 1,727 Million.
