CEB Disconnects Over Half a Million Connections in 2023, Leaving 8% of Sri Lankans in the Dark

In a recent report released by the Power and Energy Ministry, it was revealed that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has disconnected a staggering total of 544,488 electricity connections during the first 10 months of 2023.

Despite this drastic measure, the report highlights the unintended consequence of the electricity tariff hikes, which have plunged more than 8% of Sri Lankans into darkness. The figures indicate a substantial impact on households, with 94,201 electricity connections reported at the end of 2021, escalating to 247,250 connections by the end of 2022.
