The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has submitted a proposal for a possible 6% tariff increase to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) as part of the third quarterly review of 2024.
According to PUCSL, the adjustment is expected to be a moderate rise across all sectors. PUCSL Director of Corporate Communications, Jayanath Herath, explained that while initial assessments considered a decrease between 4% and 11%, the current proposal suggests a balanced 6% increase.
The proposal is currently under PUCSL review, after which it will enter a public consultation phase before a final decision is made. Should any adjustments be needed, the CEB will receive feedback on Monday to take appropriate action.
This marks the third tariff revision this year. The first in March resulted in a 21.9% increase across all sectors, followed by a 22.5% reduction in July.
