Death threats to MP Weerasinghe

A Parliamentarian complained to the Speaker that he had come under death threats for the last two days and requested to ensure his security.

SLPP MP D. Weerasinghe, while raising a privilege issue, told Parliament that he has been receiving calls and SMS messages for the last two days from a mobile phone threatening him with death.

The MP said he will lodge a complaint with the CID tomorrow demanding an investigation into the incident.

“Two Facebook posts have been posted recently claiming that I had raped a mother and a daughter and killed them in 1989. I must say that I was just eight years old in 1989. I urge the Speaker to intervene and ensure my security,” he said.

Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksha informed the MP to submit the matter in writing and assured to refer the matter to the IGP and the Defence Minister.
