The tally of dengue cases recorded in 2024 has surpassed 34,000, with 16 deaths attributed to the disease, according to the Epidemiology Unit.
As of August 11, a total of 34,053 cases have been reported this year, with the highest number from the Colombo district, which has recorded 8,201 cases.
The Western Province has reported the most cases overall, with 13,822, while the month of August alone has logged 1,308 dengue cases.
In response to the rise in cases, health officials are urging the public to maintain clean surroundings and eliminate mosquito breeding sites to help control the spread of dengue.
