Department of Meteorology: Showery Conditions to Ease Across the Island from Today

The Department of Meteorology has announced that the prevailing showery conditions over the island are expected to decrease starting today (August 22).

Several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.

Fairly strong winds of around 30-40 km/h can be anticipated at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
