Department of Posts Estimates Rs. 1.4 Billion for Upcoming Presidential Election

The Department of Posts has presented an estimated expenditure report totaling Rs. 1.4 billion to the Election Commission for the upcoming Presidential election.

Postmaster General P. Sathkumara stated that the increased costs are due to rising postage rates since the previous election cycle.

Sathkumara also addressed a critical issue facing the department: a significant shortage of staff.

He noted that there is currently a shortfall of between 1,000 and 2,000 postmen required to fulfill election-related duties effectively.

To address this issue, the Postmaster General mentioned that the Department of Posts plans to seek approval from the National Election Commission to employ retired postmen.
