Deshabandu Thennakoon refutes claim: Vows to resign if allegations proven

Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) in charge of the Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon has refuted reports circulating on social media claiming he had undertaken a position with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) from 2021 to 2023.

Issuing a statement, Tennakoon revealed that he had been offered the role of an advisor by the SLC in August 2021, and had also received a letter from the SLC on the appointment effective from August 16, 2021, to August 15, 2023.

SDIG Tennakoon further said he had consulted the then Public Security Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Jagath Alwis, who had advised him not to take up the position after which it had been conveyed to the SLC via a letter in November 2021.

Stating that the reports circulating on social media are false, SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon assured he has never received any financial or other benefits from Sri Lanka Cricket.
