The director of Gaza Strip’s primary hospital, Al-Shifa, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, has reported a critical situation as the facility faces shortages of oxygen and water. With over 650 patients, 500 medical staff, and 5,000 displaced individuals, the conditions are described as “tragic.”
Israeli soldiers have surrounded the hospital in Gaza City, with ongoing military operations causing distress. Salmiya stated that Israeli troops are inside the hospital, conducting searches for the second consecutive day, while drones fly overhead. The BBC has been unable to independently verify the reports.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claim their operation against Hamas is proceeding in a “discreet, methodical, and thorough manner.” However, reports from inside the hospital indicate widespread shooting and destruction, with communication lost between colleagues.
The IDF released images of what they claim are Hamas weapons and equipment found during the raid. Al-Shifa’s main water line has reportedly been blown up, exacerbating the dire situation.
Despite the IDF asserting a “well-hidden terrorist infrastructure” within the complex, Hamas denies its fighters operating in the hospital. The situation is evolving, with the IDF continuing its operation, and concerns grow for the well-being of those inside.
In a separate development, Israel has dropped leaflets in the Khan Younis area, warning residents to evacuate, raising concerns of a potential military operation in southern Gaza. The conflict has escalated, leading to a significant humanitarian crisis, with thousands of lives at risk. Source – BBC
