The Disaster Management Center (DMC) and the Department of Examinations have launched a joint programme to mitigate potential disaster risks and ensure the uninterrupted administration of the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination. This proactive initiative follows meteorological predictions of a possible low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal in the coming week.
The programme is designed to create a conducive environment for students to sit for the exam without disruptions caused by adverse weather or other unforeseen disasters.
Awareness and Coordination Efforts
An awareness session, led by DMC Director General Major General (Retired) Udaya Herath, was held at the DMC premises. The event involved officials from the Department of Examinations and other key institutions at both national and district levels. The session emphasized strengthening emergency response mechanisms to address challenges faced by students and examination officials.
Emergency Guidelines and Support
The DMC, in collaboration with disaster management agencies, including the armed forces and police, has issued guidelines to relevant authorities to address potential disruptions during the exam period. Emergency contact numbers have also been introduced to assist students facing difficulties in reaching examination centers:
- DMC Emergency Hotline: 117
- Emergency Operations Room: 0113 668 020, 0113 668 100, 0113 668 013, 0113 668 010
