Minister Vijitha Herath announced that Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will serve as the Prime Minister in the new government to be formed after the upcoming general elections. He also stated that the new administration will establish a cabinet of 25 ministers, marking a new phase for the government.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Herath emphasized the government’s commitment to equality in enforcing the Presidents Entitlements Act of 1982, despite recent social media reports suggesting that former presidents are organizing to protect their privileges.
He addressed concerns about the excessive number of police officers assigned to retired officials, noting that the public cannot sustain such expenses. “Some have requested as many as 163 officers, while others have around 90. We will definitely change this situation,” he affirmed.
To address the issue, Minister Herath confirmed that a committee has been appointed.
