The Egg Producers’ Association and wholesale traders have agreed to cap the maximum retail price of eggs at Rs. 37. This decision comes after discussions with M.M. Naimudeen, Secretary of the Ministry of Trade, who confirmed that directives have been issued to enforce this price cap.
The agreement aims to stabilize egg prices and provide relief to consumers. Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the formation of a special food policy committee tasked with making future decisions on food prices, quality standards, and safety regulations.
Secretary Naimudeen also reported that current pricing data on imported food items has been compiled, which will aid in regulating food costs and ensuring timely relief for the public.
In a related update, the Consumer Affairs Authority revealed that some essential food items are being imported at undervalued rates, leading to substantial revenue losses for the government. Importers and traders have now agreed to conduct import activities at stipulated prices, a measure expected to promote fair pricing and trade practices across the food sector.
