General Saman Ratnayake, of the Election Commission, has dismissed social media reports alleging that the date for the parliamentary election is unconstitutional.
Several activists claimed that the election date, set for November 14th, is invalid, citing a legal requirement of a five-week gap between the nomination deadline and election day.
“Nomination ends on October 11th, and the law mandates a five-week interval, including the day of nominations. This date is accurate,” Ratnayake clarified in a statement to NewsWire.
