A special gazette notification has been issued, designating the supply of electricity and related services, as well as the supply and distribution of petroleum products and fuel, as essential services.
Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake issued the communiqué on August 5, following directives from President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The notification was published in accordance with the authority granted to the President under Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act No. 61 of 1979.
