Experts Warn of Increased Skin Diseases Due to Rising Temperatures

Medical experts are sounding the alarm about a potential surge in skin diseases amid rising temperatures in the country. Specialist Dr. Deepal Perera spoke to the Daily Mirror, highlighting a concerning trend of increasing skin problems among children as temperatures continue to climb.

Dr. Perera emphasized that elevated temperatures exacerbate skin conditions and heighten the risk of dehydration, particularly in young children. He advised the public to limit unnecessary sun exposure and stay hydrated by drinking ample fluids.

The specialist recommended opting for natural beverages, such as water, lemon juice, and king coconut, over artificial drinks. Additionally, he suggested that parents ensure their children bathe twice a day to prevent dehydration.

This advisory comes in response to the Meteorological Department’s announcement that the sun will be directly overhead Sri Lanka from August 28 to September 6, due to its southward movement. Today, August 28, the sun will be directly overhead at Delft Island, Pooneryn, Thadduvankoddi, and Chundikkulam around 12:11 p.m.

An official from the Meteorological Department attributed this phenomenon to the prevailing global climate changes.
