Sri Lanka’s Finance Ministry has announced that there are no plans to close down Sri Lanka Thriposha Ltd, the state-owned company that provides nutritional supplements to mothers and children nationwide.
This statement came in response to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa’s claim that the government intends to shut down the company, which plays a crucial role in combating malnutrition.
Speaking at a recent event in Homagama, Premadasa accused the government of having a “deceptive plan” to dismantle the company. Thriposha Ltd currently supports around 664,920 mothers and 925,172 children, distributing approximately 1.6 million packets per month to underweight children under five, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers in need of nutritional assistance.
Premadasa further alleged that the decision to shut down or consolidate Thriposha Ltd is tied to recommendations from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), citing authorization under Gazette No. 2403/53, dated September 27, 2024.
