Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry, disclosed that a staggering 275,000 Sri Lankans have embarked on foreign employment opportunities within the present year. Emphasizing the substantial scale of this migration, he highlighted that a significant 85% of these individuals have sought employment in Middle Eastern countries.
The revelation was made during a press conference convened at the Presidential Media Center, where Minister Sabry addressed the media.
In addition to the update on overseas employment figures, Minister Sabry announced a crucial engagement scheduled with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on December 12. He noted that this discussion holds significant importance, as it could pave the way for Sri Lanka to receive the second tranche of the IMF bailout facility.
Anticipating outcomes from the forthcoming discussion, the Minister expressed optimism about the potential benefits that may accrue to the country through continued collaboration with the IMF.
