Early this morning, on February 12, former President and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) leader Maithripala Sirisena embarked on a journey to the United States. Sources reveal that Sirisena boarded an Indian Airlines flight destined for New Delhi at approximately 02:50 a.m. today, with plans to continue his journey to the US.
Simultaneously, political insiders indicate that upon the SLFP leader’s return to Sri Lanka, new appointments to the board of officials of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) are anticipated. State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna is reportedly in line to be appointed as the new UPFA General Secretary.
