Gazette issued by the President calling for the tri-forces is a routine monthly gazette – stated Defense Secretary

The gazette notification issued by the President, calling for the involvement of the tri-forces, was aimed at ensuring public security, said Secretary of Defense Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sampath Thuyacontha.

Speaking to the media, Air Vice Marshal Thuyacontha explained that it is part of the usual procedure carried out under the powers vested in the President.

“Although there is no state of emergency, the President has the authority to deploy the tri-forces for public security. It is purely a routine gazette issued every month. However, it has gained traction on social media,” he said.

Thuyacontha further noted that all potential threats to Sri Lanka have been identified, and the public is currently facing a range of non-traditional threats.

“Under the leadership of the President, we hope to address all these threats in a way that does not cause inconvenience to the public,” the Defense Secretary stated.

He also added that the government expects to resolve the issue by strengthening the tri-forces, and there are plans to further enhance the tri-forces through technology, training, and other aspects.
