Gazette Notification: Water and Sewerage Charges Reduced

A gazette notification has been issued by Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development, Jeevan Thondaman, announcing a reduction in water and sewerage charges. The revised tariffs are effective from August 21st.

The reductions apply to domestic users, government schools, assisted schools, and government-approved charitable institutions, excluding Samurdhi beneficiaries and estate houses. The National Water Supply and Drainage Board stated that the tariffs have been reduced by more than five percent.

Under the domestic category, the fee for 0 to 5 units has been reduced by Rs.10, lowering the cost from Rs.60 to Rs.50 per unit. For consumption between 76 to 100 units, the fee has been decreased by Rs.20, from Rs.270 to Rs.250 per unit.

For government and assisted schools, as well as government-approved charitable institutions, the fee has been reduced by Rs.5, bringing it down from Rs.60 to Rs.55 per unit. The fee for water used in government hospitals has also been reduced by Rs.5, from Rs.100 to Rs.95 per unit.

However, the Water Board clarified that there is no change in the monthly service charge under this tariff revision.
