Sri Lanka’s Secretary of Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne, recently conducted bilateral discussions with Russia’s Security Council Secretary, Nikolai Patrushev, in St. Petersburg. According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, the meeting highlighted the crucial need for international cooperation and collaboration in addressing security threats while fostering peace and stability in the region.
The discussions encompassed a broad spectrum of topics, including counterterrorism efforts, cyber security, and defence cooperation. Both parties affirmed their dedication to bolstering bilateral ties and exploring opportunities for heightened collaboration within the security domain.
The bilateral dialogue occurred on the sidelines of the 12th International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Security Matters, held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from April 22nd to 25th. This esteemed event serves as a platform for global leaders to deliberate on and confront the prevailing security challenges confronting nations today.
